All Natural Ecru Foxfibre® Selvedge: A Story of Sustainable Innovation
Weighing in at 13.6 oz, All Natural Ecru Foxfibre® Selvedge is a denim made from unbleached organic cotton and Foxfibre®, a rare, naturally dyed cotton. This denim tells a story as old as the earth itself, yet as modern as sustainable farming can be. It reminds us that the best colors don't always come from a dye vat, but straight from nature itself.
Foxfibre® is no ordinary cotton. It was created by Sally Fox, an agricultural pioneer who dedicated decades to developing naturally dyed cotton varieties. Grown on an organic farm in Texas, the cotton grows in warm, earthy tones – like soft browns and greens that deepen over time. This cotton requires no bleaching or dyeing, making it one of the world’s most sustainable textile fibers.
Sally Fox - innovator and role model
Sally Fox's work was groundbreaking in the 1980s and 90s, challenging a cotton industry obsessed with uniformity. She championed diversity and environmental awareness, saved ancient cotton genetic varieties from extinction, and showed the world the possibilities of natural textile dyes.
As Sally herself says, “If you can grow the color, there’s no reason to dye it.” This philosophy is woven directly into the All Natural Ecru Foxfibre® Selvedge, with each strand carrying the integrity of her work.
The warp of the fabric is unbleached organic cotton, which gives a warm, neutral tone, while the Foxfibre® in the weft adds subtle brown tones with small irregularities, known as “neps”. These are not defects, but a characteristic of Foxfibre®, and add depth and a textural richness that denim enthusiasts appreciate. The brown selvedge edge is a subtle but important reference to the fabric’s natural origins.
Over time, the Foxfibre® weft develops beautifully. With each wash and use, the naturally dyed cotton deepens in tone, creating a unique patina that tells a personal story about the wearer.
