Troyer is a classic sailor's sweater with roots in European maritime tradition. The name is believed to come either from the English town of Troy Town or from Low German usage in Northern Germany.
Traditionally, such sweaters were knitted from pure wool because the material is naturally water-repellent and insulating. Even when the wool gets wet, it continues to retain heat. This made the Troyer sweater ideal for fishermen, sailors and workers who spent long days outdoors in cold and wet weather.
Today, Troyer is considered a classic in maritime and heritage-inspired clothing, combining practical function with a timeless expression.
