The 1943 CPO Shirt from Pike Brothers is a classic overshirt inspired by the shirts worn by Chief Petty Officers in the US Navy during World War II. The garment was developed for work on ships where clothing had to withstand wind, salt water and harsh conditions on deck.
The CPO shirt quickly became a favorite among seafarers because it combined warmth, durability and good mobility. The roomy fit and two large chest pockets made the garment practical for working in cold weather. Over time, the CPO shirt has become a classic in heritage and workwear-inspired clothing.
This version is made from heavy-duty mustard moleskin , a robust cotton fabric that gives the shirt the character of a lightweight jacket or overshirt. The thick quality makes it ideal as a mid-layer in cooler weather.
The shirt is produced in Portugal and follows the authentic roomy fit from the 1940s.
About moleskin fabric
The shirt is made of 410 g/m² moleskin , a heavy cotton fabric produced in Germany according to traditional specifications.
Moleskin is woven very tightly and then brushed on the surface to lift the fibers in the fabric. The result is a soft, almost suede-like surface that is also very durable. The name comes from the fabric's resemblance to the skin of a mole.
The dense construction makes the material both durable and relatively windproof. Historically, moleskin was used in workwear for mechanics, factory workers, and craftsmen because the fabric can withstand hard use while being comfortable to wear.
Over time, moleskin develops a characteristic patina where areas of heavy use become darker and smoother in surface.

The story behind the CPO shirt
CPO stands for Chief Petty Officer , a rank in the United States Navy. The shirt was developed in the 1930s for work on deck where clothing had to be warm, durable, and practical in inclement weather. Over time, it became a standard part of the work uniform of many sailors.
Today, the CPO shirt is considered an icon of classic workwear. The combination of sturdy materials, functional details and historic design makes the garment still popular among heritage clothing enthusiasts.
