Big John RARE R008 – 15.5oz Unsanforized Selvedge Denim Jeans
The RARE R008 from Big John is the brand's flagship model and the result of more than fifty years of Japanese denim expertise. Every step of production – spinning, dyeing, weaving and stitching – is carried out by specialist craftsmen in Japan to create a pair of jeans that represent the ultimate in traditional denim production.
The jeans are made from 15.5oz unsanforized selvedge denim , a raw denim fabric that is not pre-shrunk. This means that the fabric will shrink after the first wash and gradually shape itself to the body with use.
The R008 Straight Fit has a regular waist and a straight leg from thigh to foot opening, resulting in a classic silhouette inspired by vintage work jeans.
The denim is produced in Okayama, Japan , the region considered the heart of Japanese denim production.

About denim fabric
The RARE series uses a specially developed denim fabric called BIG7055 . The cotton is a carefully balanced blend of American cotton types spun by Asahi Boseki in Osaka .
The yarn is then dyed at Sakamoto Denim , one of Japan's most respected indigo dyers. The denim is woven very slowly on a narrow 1950s shuttle loom , which gives the fabric a dense structure and distinct texture.
The result is a strong denim designed to withstand shrinkage without losing its shape, while Rare Jeans develops strong contrasts and fades as the jeans are worn.
