1944 N1 DECK JACKET - Waxed Olive

The 1944 N1 Deck Jacket from Pike Brothers is a reproduction of the classic US Navy N-1 Deck Jacket from World War II. The jacket was developed for sailors working on deck, where clothing had to withstand wind, salt water and harsh weather conditions.

Worn by US Marines from Normandy to the Pacific , the N-1 jacket became one of the most popular military jackets of the 1940s. The combination of a robust outer fabric and warm wool lining made it ideal for work in cold and damp climates.

This version from Pike Brothers follows the historic construction, but is made from waxed jungle cloth , which provides better water resistance and develops a distinct patina through use.

About jungle cloth

The outer fabric is made from tightly woven jungle cloth in 100% cotton , a material developed for military workwear in the 1930s and 1940s. The fabric is known for being very robust and naturally windproof.

In this model, the fabric is treated with three layers of wax , which makes the jacket water-repellent and gives the material a slightly oily surface. Over time, the wax treatment will develop a characteristic patina that makes the jacket more personal.

On the inside, the jacket has a heavy woven wool lining , which provides good insulation while also transporting moisture away from the body. Together, the materials create a jacket that works well in cold and damp weather.

The story behind the N-1 Deck Jacket
