The 1938 Pea Coat from Pike Brothers is a classic sailor's jacket inspired by the heavy wool coats worn by navies around the world. The pea coat has its roots back to the 18th century, when Dutch sailors developed a short, robust coat made of heavy wool to protect against wind and weather at sea.

The distinctive construction with a wide collar and double-breasted closure was developed specifically for harsh weather conditions. When the collar is folded up and the jacket is closed tightly, it provides effective protection against wind and cold. This functional design has made the peacoat one of the most timeless military jackets available.

Pike Brothers has recreated this model using the same heavy wool quality as in the 1930s. The fabric weighs a whopping 1000 g/m² and is woven exclusively for the brand by a weaver in Portugal using a traditional pattern. The high fabric weight gives the jacket natural resistance to both wind and moisture, while retaining warmth.

The result is a classic maritime coat that combines historical design with modern manufacturing. It works equally well over a shirt or sweater as it does with selvedge jeans and workwear.
