The 1927 Shop Apron from Pike Brothers is a classic workshop apron inspired by the work clothes worn by craftsmen in the 1920s . Aprons like this were common in workshops of shoemakers, carpenters and mechanics, where clothing needed to be protected from dirt, metal dust and sparks while working.

The model follows a traditional construction with spacious front pockets for tools and a robust denim quality developed for everyday use in a workshop environment. The apron can be quickly put on over regular clothes when doing a job without putting on full work clothes.

The material is strong enough to withstand hard use, while the denim softens and develops character over time.

About denim fabric

The apron is made from 11oz selvedge denim in 100% cotton . This weight provides a fabric that is sturdy enough to protect against dirt and wear, but still flexible enough to be comfortable in use.

Selvedge denim is woven on traditional shuttle looms that produce fabric in narrower webs with a finished woven edge – the selvedge. This method produces a denser and more durable weave , while the fabric develops a distinct patina with use.

Denim has long been used in workwear precisely because the material combines durability, flexibility and longevity .

The story behind workshop aprons

Aprons have been a part of crafts for centuries. In the early 20th century, heavy cotton fabrics like denim and canvas became common materials because they could withstand the harsh use in workshops and factories.

Such aprons protected clothing from metal shavings, oil, dirt and sparks , while also providing the craftsman with practical pockets for tools and small parts. Today, workshop aprons are still worn by mechanics, carpenters and other tradesmen – both for function and as part of classic workwear tradition.
